The Apple iPhone 18 Pro Max was officially launched on 9 September 2026. This iPhone is designed for those who want to get the most out of a smartphone. The key new features include the powerful A20 Pro chip, a 48MP Fusion main camera with variable aperture, and Siri AI with Apple Intelligence. Powerful A20 Pro chip
You really notice speed when your device doesn’t have to think before it responds. The A20 Pro chip is designed precisely for that. Its CPU is up to 20 per cent faster than on the iPhone 17 Pro Max, whilst the GPU offers up to 40 per cent more graphics speed. As a result, games run more smoothly and even demanding video projects require less patience. For Apple Intelligence, there’s a Dual 16-core Neural Engine with twice the computing power for on-device intelligence. Smarter heat management
Greater speed is of little value if a phone can’t sustain it for long. Apple has therefore also addressed the internal design of the iPhone 18 Pro Max. The new-generation vapour chamber dissipates heat more efficiently when the A20 Pro is working hard for extended periods. Siri AI understands context
Siri AI is an assistant that not only provides answers, but also actually takes care of things for you. You can have natural conversations, ask open-ended questions or use Siri to come up with ideas. Thanks to personal context, Siri can, for example, find photos from a previous holiday or search for a specific email in your inbox. Siri can also carry out actions directly within apps, such as creating a reminder, calling someone, sending a message or adding a track to your playlist. With world knowledge, Siri searches for up-to-date information online. If you point the camera at something, you can ask Siri and Visual Intelligence questions about what you’re seeing. Integrated Apple Intelligence
Sometimes the smartest AI feature is the one you hardly notice. In iOS 27, Apple Intelligence therefore pops up during everyday tasks. For example, Call Context can display relevant information from Mail whilst you’re calling a business. Messages and Mail suggest actions based on a conversation, whilst Shortcuts can create an automation based on a simple description. Feeling creative? With Image Playground, you can create images, and with Clean Up, you can remove distracting objects from photos. Battery life that lasts for days
A delayed train, one more episode, or that extra game after all: your day rarely goes to plan. Fortunately, neither does the battery of the Apple iPhone 18 Pro Max. Apple claims up to 45 hours of video playback. That’s six hours longer than on the iPhone 17 Pro Max. For mixed use, Apple quotes up to 30 hours per charge. Even a nearly flat battery won’t hold you up for long. With a suitable adapter, you can charge up to 50 per cent in around 15 minutes. A quick top-up can therefore be enough to give you plenty of extra usage time.

Dynamic Island: smarter on screen
The iPhone 18 Pro Max’s large 6.9-inch Super Retina XDR display gives films, photos and games plenty of space. Thanks to ProMotion with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz, animations and scrolling movements flow exceptionally smoothly across the screen. The updated Dynamic Island can display up to three Live Activities at once, allowing you to keep track of, for example, navigation, music and a sports feed at a glance. The Always-On display keeps important information visible without you having to constantly wake the device. Ceramic Shield protects both the front and back, with Ceramic Shield 2 on the front offering extra scratch resistance.

A camera that plays with light
The most striking camera innovation on the Apple iPhone 18 Pro Max compared to previous models lies in the main camera. It now features a variable aperture. The lens can operate at ƒ/1.48, ƒ/1.8, ƒ/2.8 and ƒ/4.0, adjusting the aperture to control light and depth of field. This means a portrait can have a distinctly different look to a landscape, where you’d want to keep as much of the scene in focus as possible. In low light, the larger aperture helps you take better photos and videos.

Different photos call for a different perspective every time. That’s why the iPhone 18 Pro Max’s camera system ranges from a 48MP ultra-wide-angle camera for landscapes and macro shots to a 48MP telephoto camera with up to 8x optical-quality zoom.
